A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Picture Archaic Greece.

A strange and ambivalent time and land. Most of the country is uncivilized, a chain of city-states, yet the isles on the other side of the sea have been colonized. Socrate's great-great-grandfather is not born yet, but art is flourishing and the Odyssey a scholar classic. Many conceptions about Ancient Greece are already true, but much more are not, for the best and the worst.

Melos is a short interactive story (around 10,000 words for 6 endings) about romance, poetry and honesty in this world at the meeting point between myth and history.

Art by Katta. See credits file for all other contributors. Game originally made for the Yuri Game Jam of 2015.

Thank you for a game that made me realize that I have forgotten 99,8% of the ancient greek I once had learned at university, from the intro screens alone... (Edit: A pity the android version is not available as an apk at least, after not being available from the play store.)

Hello!

My name's Ross, I'm a researcher over at the University of Liverpool, UK, and I'm contracted to produce a book on the use of ancient Greece and Rome in videogames.

I hope its alright, but I've played and studies the Melos game in a case-study analysis for the book.

To support the analysis of Melos, I've also manually taken screenshots. I therefore required your permission to use those screenshots in the book. May I request your consent to use those images I've prepared in the forthcoming publication?

I'm afraid I don't have a social media presence, but I can trade email addresses if you need further information on the forthcoming book itself.

Thank you for the game, by the way - its a truly unique take on Archaic Greece and (as your fans below state) a genuinely emotional experience!

Very best,

Ross

Hi Skarn,

I'm just following up on the message above, and hoping you're well in these trying times.

May I ask if you can get in touch regarding the use of screenshots from the Melos game in the forthcoming publication mentioned in the previous message?

Very best,
Ross

I'm following up on this here request, as I would like your consent to use screenshots of Melos in a forthcoming book about ancient history and videogames.

I can confirm that I've spoken to other creators on the itch.io platform and received their consent - its the real deal, and it won't cost anything :)

Cheers,
Ross

Hello,

Sorry for he delay, I don't monitor much what's happening there. Glad you liked the game. You can take and use screenshots of Melos as you wish, I have no problem with that.

Thank you Skarn! And thanks very much for producing the game. I'll let you know how the book, and your section, go along and are received in future. Very best!

so you sit down and said "i gonna make bitches cry" i feel hurt so yeah it worked like oblivion and coward was my jam but i don't know about truth love it but in real life oblivion is playing safe... omg Antiope rejection hurts i'm literally on tears but it make me feel alive

Love it hit me right in the feels like the rest and every ending was a deep cut on my heart :')

I liked this a lot! Hit me right in the feels <3

Very good game. Maybe a bit short. And its based on choices. With multiple ending. But I like it. It's also very replayable.

But in my opinion it's weird how totally different decisions and situations sometimes leads to exacly the same ending.

And of course I really like artstyle and music :)

I absolutely adored this game! It's beautifully written and the character design, both physically and personality-wise, is gorgeous. I loved how you included Greek poetry into the game. Very nice detail. Now there are some spelling mistakes, but they're easy enough to ignore.

All of the six endings were wonderful. Refreshingly different from what you're used to from other visual novels. I think #4 and #6 are my favourites :D

Hello! Just tried out Melos and I must say that I was interested in the plot. The only problem that I found is that I can't get the Ending #1. I got all of them except for this one. Is there some kind of problem or am I that dumb? xD

Anyway, good game. Wish it lasted longer.

Hello,

Thank you for your kind comment.

Ending 1 is not easy to reach. To get it, you need to make a not really obvious series of choices: http://pastebin.com/UBs9QYf6
